Flip Automatic Page Turner

The Flip Automatic Page Turner is a great tool that turns the pages of a book/magazine with the simple push of a button. It is wonderful for people that can not easly turn pages of books/magazines themselves. Another nice thing about it is that there is no age group that it is specific to and it gives the caregivers more flexablity. The caregiver can simply insert the book and the user can then turn the pages by themselves. It works like this:

An caregiver needs to:

  • Choose a book or magazine
  • Open the reading material to the page you want to read
  • Place the open book / mag into the FLIP assistive device
  • Set the guides for the size and thickness of the reading material

Optionally, depending on the motor ability of the reader, they may also

  • Make sure the switch is plugged in (if the reader can press a button switch,) OR
  • Insert the mouthstick in the mouthstick control (if the reader uses a mouthstick) OR
  • Set the device for fully automatic page turning by choosing the number of seconds before turning.

When the reader is ready to move on to the next page they can either

  • push a button on the console OR
  • press a big button switch

use a mouthstick to press a control

Products for deaf and hard of hearing people.

It is amazing on how technology can really change somebody’s life. These products include conversation amplifiers, hearing loops and telephones, mobile phones, tinnitus, doorbells, etc. One of this devices that took my attention is the: Doro PhoneEasy 410 mobile phone (black version) T418BLK
This is a clamshell style mobile with a loud maximum handset volume producing speech which is natural and clear at all volumes. This phone is also Bluetooth compatible so it can be used with any Bluetooth products including our Bluetooth neckloops and earhooks and neckloops.
It also has a loud speakerphone and is compatible with hearing aids with a T setting.
There’s an emergency button on the back which will automatically send an emergency text message to up to 5 numbers and will also call them.
You can find more information about these devices at

This technology can enable people with disabilities to accomplish daily living tasks, assist them in communication, education, work or recreation activities, in essence, help them achieve greater independence and enhance their quality of life.

Assistive/Adaptive Typing, Reading & Screen Touch technology

The Touch Window is ideal for students who have trouble manipulating the mouse. It is especially effective with preschoolers and early learners, and is also recommended for students with developmental or physical disabilities.

Dragon speech recognition software has gained broad acceptance as a cost-effective accessibility tool for students with physical disabilities. In computer labs and classrooms across the country, speech recognition software is increasingly becoming a productivity tool for students of all abilities.

I really enjoy these because you can just touch the computer screen to open programs and there is no worry about having to use a mouse, double clicking, small buttons or using the wheel. It allows the child you are working with more more opening interact with the computer and with some programs makes learning more fun. This along with the Speech Recognition program makes it so your students wouldn't have to ever worry about small buttons such as typing or mouse control. Touch to click and speak to type! I have worked with both programs in a preschool environment and know first hand how children love using these programs. It  makes it so little fingers don't have to worry about typing, hitting the wrong keys, and getting frustrated. This is especially useful for children with disabilities!
